Job Description: Underground Pipe Fitter Plumber
Position Overview:
The Underground Pipe Fitter Plumber is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining underground piping systems for water, drainage, and sewage.
This role requires expertise in pipefitting, plumbing techniques, and the ability to work effectively in underground and confined spaces.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation and Repair: Install and repair underground piping systems, including water supply, sewer, and drainage pipes, in accordance with blueprints, specifications, and plumbing codes.
Pipefitting: Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes using hand and power tools to fit required specifications.
Assemble and install pipe sections, fittings, and valves.
Excavation and Trenching: Perform excavation and trenching activities to access underground pipes and install new piping systems.
Pipe Joining: Use appropriate techniques and materials to join pipes, including welding, soldering, brazing, and solvent bonding.
Ensure tight and leak-free connections.
Inspection and Testing: Conduct inspections and pressure tests on installed piping systems to ensure proper functioning and adherence to plumbing standards.
Reading Blueprints: Interpret and understand blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the layout and installation requirements of underground piping systems.
Plumbing Code Compliance: Adhere to local, state, and federal plumbing codes, regulations, and safety standards during all installation, repair, and maintenance activities.
Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) while working in underground and confined spaces.
Report any safety hazards or incidents promptly.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot issues in underground piping systems, including identifying leaks, blockages, or other defects.
Collaboration: Coordinate and communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other tradespeople to ensure efficient and timely completion of projects.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records, including work logs, materials used, and any modifications or repairs made to underground piping systems.
Equipment and Tool Maintenance: Ensure proper care and maintenance of tools, equipment, and machinery used for pipefitting and plumbing activities.
Continuous Learning: Stay updated on industry advancements, new techniques, and plumbing codes through training, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Relevant certification or apprenticeship in pipefitting, plumbing, or a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience as an underground pipe fitter plumber or similar role.
- In-depth knowledge of pipefitting techniques, materials, and plumbing codes.
- Proficient in reading blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work in underground and confined spaces, adhering to safety protocols.
- Physical stamina to perform manual labor, including heavy lifting and working in challenging conditions.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work with accuracy.
