The Assistant General Foreman assists in the oversight of daily functions of PM Carmen and Car Cleaner Crew.
This position is responsible to fill-in for General Foreman in his/her absence.

Responsibilities: Fully understand and support Xanterra Mission Statement and Core Values.
The Asst.
General Foreman will spend ample time planning and communicating with employees and then executing the plan safely and efficiently.
Work is performed in all types of inclement weather conditions.
Oversee switching, inspection, maintenance and repair of railway cars and locomotives in a safe and efficient manner.
Oversee the cleaning operations to ensure train cars meet expectations of the cleanliness standard, and are presentable for passengers.
Accurately prepare necessary forms and reports associated with car and/or locomotive inspection and repair.
Effectively plan appropriation of labor.
Maintain daily record of ongoing and completed work on PM report.
Ensure that work is being completed in a timely and accurate manner.
Ensure appropriate individuals are made aware of any delays in completing work.
Ensure equipment is positioned for inspection, repair and testing to meet the needs of the shift.
Responsible for scheduling staff; which is influenced by ongoing business demand.
The Asst.
General Foreman may be called in to work extra shifts and overtime.
Provide recommendations to the General Foreman and/or Trainmaster regarding employee’s considered for promotion to higher grade in craft.
Ensure that staff is adhering and in compliance with all prescribed Company, statutory/regulatory policies and procedures regarding worker safety, vehicle operation, risk management, HAZMAT, HAZCOM, DOT and FRA regulations.
Ensure that staff is adhering to all prescribed Environmental Management Systems (EMS) policies and corporate commitments to maintain ISO 14001 goals and guidelines.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Current or previous Yard Engineer Certification or must achieve certification within 90 days of employment Must possess a valid and clear Arizona Driver’s License and comply GCR Special Instructions and the Xanterra/GCR Vehicle Policy.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous railroad experience in a supervisory position First Aid/CPR certification.
Bi-lingual English/Spanish skills Basic Competencies: Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications-both general and technical) Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions) Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills) Mechanical aptitude Employment Conditions: Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries Works safely and efficiently to ensure company equipment is safely secured at all times.
Wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, safety-toe boots and safety glasses as required by the job duties.
Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work Complete annual training and pass safety rules examination Requires random testing for drugs and/or alcohol Must pass all required assessments May require a post-offer medical examination, including drug and physical capabilities test Environmental Conditions: Work outside in all weather conditions, in confined spaces, and on occasion at elevated heights.
May be exposed to fumes and oils on a daily basis Physical Requirements: Heavy work, lifting and pulling up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on an occasional basis.
Walking long distances over uneven terrain Ability to recognize and interpret audible, visual and olfactory conditions, signals and warnings.
Ability to distinguish colors, signals, or signs from a distance and at night or in poor lighting conditions.
