53 - $61,870.
53 Anticipated Salary: $56,870.
53 Grade: 19 Closing Date: 03/25/2024 Job Summary: Performs a variety of highly skilled technical work related to highway construction activities.
Activities include the inspection of minor construction items such as fence, grade, subgrade materials; performing a full range of laboratory field tests on soils, aggregate, asphalt products and other highway construction materials; or performing the most complex engineering office work; documents types and amount of materials used for each phase of construction.
Completes pay diaries for completed work.
Assists with winter emergencies, including any or all of the following; working at the district office front desk during snow storm emergencies; working dispatch to communicate roadway conditions and incidents to the appropriate departments (DPS & TOC) or assisting in road block/traffic control during emergencies.
Job Duties: Inspects contract items to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
Performs standard laboratory field tests of average difficulty.
Prepare construction related _documentation for verification contract items.
Operate survey instruments in a survey activity of average difficulty.
Collect, deliver and document construction material samples, using a state vehicle in the course of these duties.
Perform construction calculations related to area of assignment.
Input data into field office automated systems.
Other duties as assigned, including working at the district office front desk during snow storm emergencies; working dispatch to communicate roadway conditions and incidents to the appropriate department (DPS & TOC) or assisting in road blocks/traffic control during emergencies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge: - Knowledge of methods, procedures, and techniques used in highway construction project inspections, survey, materials testing and documentation.
- Federal, state statutes and agency standards, policies and procedures applicable to the area of assignment.
- Basic mathematics.
- Operate and maintain assigned equipment in a safe manner.
- Operating engineering related equipment.
- Oral and written communication, Interpersonal relations as applied to contracts with contractors, representatives of other governmental agencies and other agency employees.
Skill: - Skill in decision making, organizing and prioritizing work assignments.
- Skill in oral and written communications.
- Skill in time management and interpersonal relations.
Ability: - Safely drive a full size pickup truck on and off road.
- Work outdoors for extended time in hot, cold, dusty and noisy situations near high speed traffic.
- Manage time to ensure that duties are complete and accurate in a timely manner.
- Maintain positive communications under difficult situation.
Selective Preference(s): Journey level experience in survey, inspection of highway construction, hot mix and concrete plans or performing administrative or advanced engineering and construction records maintenance and related duties.
A bachelor's degree in engineering or closely related curriculum may be substituted for the required experience.
ATTI Field and ACI Field Certification.
