*REDUCED NEGOTIABLE PRICE*
Registered name James Spirit, barn name Malcolm, is being placed up for consideration.
I picked this guy up from a bad place in his life, and now he's ready to find his forever home.
He is truly amazing and a very unique horse, full of personality, and has been the friendly face of a Sedona airbnb for the last year (all of the guests never fail to mention him in their reviews), where he has been boarded.
He is 15 years old as of this month of April.
I picked him up out of Tucson myself a couple of years ago, and he was underweight, feet had been neglected, teeth had been neglected, etc.
He was extremely head shy and had a rearing problem, all of which have disappeared because he has learned to trust and love people again.
He is off of the Phoenix racetrack, has been raced a number of times but wasn't a winner, and for that reason I believe they just threw him away.
I could tell, after I brought him home, that he had been through a lot.
He has a lip tattoo, and I ran a DNA test on him to find out more about his history.
He lunges, rides out on the trails, and loads into a horse trailer pretty well (although since I sold my trailer he doesn't get to practice loading all the time now).
He has never offered to kick or bite, has amazing ground manners (very sensitive to both body language, pressure and voice commands), and has a great stop on him when ridden.
I have hopped onto him bareback with just a halter and lead line and ridden him around before.
He does have some arthritis in his legs, I've noticed he pops when he walks, but he runs around the pasture all crazy like a 2 year old, and he is super energetic.
With more training I think he could make an awesome junior mount, but as it is right now he is for experienced people only (and preferably those who know how to handle an ex-racehorse).
He is on the hotter side and is definitely more go than whoa.
He is very smart, learns quickly and knows if he is dealing with someone inexperienced.
I will be honest, he would do best in a home without other horses because he tends to get buddy sour if not worked with constantly.
I've noticed he does better with me when he is alone because then he really has to focus on you, and you alone.
If he is kept with other horses, you just need to keep him on a schedule of going out by himself a lot.
Once he is away from everybody he seems to do great.
He comes without papers, previous owner would not sign them over, to make a long story short.
He is located in west Sedona.
I have not ridden him much over the winter months, but will be picking up with giving him a refresher starting next week.
Asking $3,500.
