Under limited supervision performs work of moderate difficulty in maintaining the safety and security of the Juvenile Court and court services; performs related work as assigned.
Act as a Certified Court Security Officer.
Please Note: This position may include weekdays, weekends, nights, and holidays as needed.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES (Illustrative Only)Conduct screening of persons, baggage, or containers to ensure compliance with Court Security regulations, policies, and procedures.
Operate basic security equipment such as x-ray machines and hand wands at the court entrances.
Patrol court facilities and grounds.
Ensure the safety of those who participate in the judicial process and insure safe and secure access to justice.
Duties may include potentially high-risk situations involving the safety of court personnel and the public.
Provides a security presence at the main court entrance conducting an over watch of entry screening procedures.
Monitors security systems, including closed circuit video, fire and security alarms; and access control hardware.
Escorts vendors when on premises.
Answers routine inquiries and directs visitors to appropriate areas.
Distinguishes color and depth perception to conduct personnel and bag screening, including operation of an X-ray scanner and metal detector(s).
Screens mail, including incoming and outgoing packages for suspicious contents.
Provides close judicial officer protection to include liaison w/police regarding communicated threats via correspondence or in person.
Provides Courtroom security including security sweeps, jury protection and high-risk trial support.
Collects and process fingerprints for criminal justice purposes, court employment, and for adoption applicantsEnsures the integrity of juries are maintainedHandles court documentation, evidence, and exhibitsProvides Critical Incident response, to include but not limited to an active shooter interdiction.
Prepares incident reports and daily log entries.
Prevents unauthorized access to restricted areas.
Enforces correction of infractions through verbal warning, expels unruly persons, and detains more serious offenders for proper authorities.
Attends Order of Protection and Injunction Against Harassment hearings.
Responds to assistance calls from courtrooms.
May be assigned to assist/cover shifts in other court(s) as neededMay qualifies with firearms, on an annual basis, and other defensive tactics and/or less lethal weapons as appropriate to the job assignment.
Essential functions of this position include but are not limited to: prolonged standing; working with and around others; vision acuity (near and far) for security observation; color vision for security functions; hearing and speech for ordinary conversation and security functions; touch/finger dexterity for searching bags, etc.
Environmental factors: most work is conducted inside of courthouse; potential hazards associated with carrying a firearm in the performance of duties and at security check points.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Considerable Knowledge in: Security techniques and practices associated with government building security issues.
Principles and practices of security enforcement methods and techniques for providing safety, security, and emergency services.
Procedures for entry and retrieval of security information and methods for correction.
General knowledge of court terminology, rules, procedures, and operations.
Ability to: Interact with people who are often: confused, angry, and/or openly hostile, while maintaining proper security and decorum.
Understand Court procedures and processes.
Interpret City policies, procedures, and regulations.
Learn and interpret City policies, procedures, and regulations.
Identify hazardous or unsafe conditions or behaviors.
Listen, communicate, and work effectively with a diverse group of people.
Proficiently perform computerized word processing, reading comprehension, summarizing, and writing/editing.
Attend or conduct various meetings as needed.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, court staff, and the public.
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
Qualify with firearms and less lethal weapons, as assigned, on an annual basis.
Attend a 40-hour Court Security Officer training course and be certified in accordance with standards set by the Arizona Administrative Office of the Courts.
Work safely and support a culture of workplace safety.
Effectively follow directives.
